I am a twenty-three year old college student and anime/manga fan. I have been into anime/manga heavily for about eight years. My taste range from the very old to the very new.
Welcome to my anime/manga blog. I’ll try to get a more thorough welcome post up when I get the chance, but for now enjoy what I have here.
In addition to reviewing titles I’m reading/watching now, I’ll likely do posts reflecting on some favorites. Also, although I follow many new anime via fansubs/licensed release, I frequently watch/read older series.
Here are a few of my favorites, just so you know what you’re getting into.
Mangaka: Takahashi Rumiko [Every single one of her manga would fall in my top series, no questions asked. She's an outstandingly gifted storyteller, and deserves all the prestige she's gained (and more). From Urusei Yatsura to InuYasha, to everything in between. I love her characterization, her art, her ability to write relationships, etc. I think she could make a manga about dryer lint endearing.]
Anime: Princess Tutu [No summary can do this series justice, because no summary will make it sound like anything but a typical shoujo romp. It is anything but. I generally only watch shoujo because it amuses me, and am really not a big fan most of the time. Here's the biggest exception there is. I've heard of grown men crying while watching this anime. It is one of the most well thought and profound (yes it's deep) titles out there.]
Character: Higurashi Kagome from InuYasha- Sengoku o Togi Zoushi [Although she wasn't one of my favorites when I got into the series several years ago, in time she became the irreplaceable number one. I'm a manga!Kagome fan, as the anime really messed with her characterization and weakened her. She's got a will of steel and an amazing capacity to love. She manages to be extremely strong and virtuous, yet also completely realistic and human. She works to get over her flaws, she finds strength in her weakness. And on a more superficial note she's gorgeous and kicks ass on the battlefield. ]
Seiyuu: Yamaguchi Kappei [This man is a god. He is not just a great seiyuu, but an outstanding actor capable of an amazing amount of depth in his characterization. I like him so much that I generally won't watch a dub (and I often like dubs) if he's in the original. ]
The Anime that got me into Anime: The Slayers [This classic fantasy comedy was what really got me into anime. I'd seen and enjoyed a few titles before, but this set off the craving. Of course I still love it to bits. The characters are lively and inventive, all hilarious in their own right. The story manages to be touching one moment and utterly ridiculous the next. NEXT (season two) is one of the best seasons of anime out there. So many newer anime fans have never checked into this title. I hope Funimation's re-release of it in Summer '07 helps it to garner some new fans. I know I still love rewatching it.)
